  1. Research is going on in various parts of the Tribal Zones in the districts of Vishakaptnam, Vijayanagaram & Srikakulam. The places selected are Punctalachinta, Suldimamidi(Vishakapatnam), Valasaguda(Vijayanagaram).
  2. Research is on the types of diseases attacking & the people proned for what type of diseases, their lifestyle, Habital, Habits etc..
  3. Tribes are Valmiki, Saura, Nukadora, Koyadora etc..

The Districts of Srikakulam, Vizayanagaram & Visakapatnam consists of forest area or agency area.

  • Andhra - Orissa border is approximately about 1200 kilometers.
  • There are 34 tribes in the state of Andhrapradesh.In the three districts nearly more than 20 tribes are residing.

All together nearly one million population are residing on the hilly mountain regions.

TRANSPORT:
The transport facility is available for only 50% for these Tribal areas; rest of the people travel only on foot 60% of the area is not easily accessible through transport.
COMMUNICATION:
Mode of communication such as telephone available only for 50% of areas
FOOD:
Jonnalu – (Jowar), Ganti (a type of paddy seeds)
Voodala, Korralu, Neladumplau (Roots, Herbs, Shrubs), Mangoseeds soup.
Hunting: They hunt wild animals and take them as food including snakes ∧ rats.
AGRICULTURE:
They call it as podu agriculture they depend on forest fruits and other forest products.
SHELTER:
Houses are made up of Thatches and tiles. Floor and Walls are made up of soil and cow dung.


SOCIAL CUSTOMS AND TRADITIONS:

  • They perform child marriages, or early marriages.
  • If they are not happy or feel uncomfortable with their husband or wife with husband they lead adulterous life.
  • They also believe on superstitious activities and perform sacrifices to their gods and goddesses and eat that sacrifice animal meat (generally beef, which is not properly cooked).
  • They obtain a special drink called as sara from the flowers of Vippa Plant – they prepare sara from the flowers of the vippa plant and is commonly seen both male and females, they get Jeeliga Kallu ( a type of neera) from the tree called Jeeliga. This is also a common practice every day both males and females.
  • Smoking is seen both in males and females they even chew tobacco. It is also a major problem for bad health in these areas.

CAUSES FOR THE ABOVE:

  • Illiteracy
  • No awareness
  • Unreachable area - No Proper transport facility
  • No Proper communication with the outside world.
  • Awareness includes

    4. Medical needs

PROBLEMS:

  • Lack of awareness on health problems

    1. Malnourishment

    5. Fever & Pain
  3. Adults:
    1. Fevers
    2. Animals bites
    3. Lung infection because of smoking and drinking
    4. Skin infection
    5. Infection
    6. Nervous disorders.
