About Rev Thomas Orr (4th January 1926 - 7th October 2012)

Rev Thomas Orr Converted to Christianity at the age of 16 through a Gospel Booklet. He completed a four year course under Dr W Graham Scroggie of England. By the age of 22 he entered the Ministry and by 24 he was received onto the accredited list of pastors of the Baptist Union of Ireland.

His First Church was in Killyleagh, County Down, Northern Ireland. His second church was in Belfast and his last Church in Rathcoole. Altogether he served the Lord for 45 years. His Ministry has spread to Scotland, England, Germany, USA, Canada, Brazil, Africa, Australia, Papua New Guinea and India. He travelled to many restricted countries of Europe and Asia on a teaching and preaching ministry. He was invited to become the Chairman of Biblical Education by Extension International, UK, a position he holds to this day. He is also the Honorable Director of Bethesda a mission of mercy which is spread all over India.

In 2001, Rev.Thomas Orr, a visionary, visited India and immediately lit a candle in the heart of Dr.Prabhu Challagali to serve the people and that flame started to grow and glow brighter with the Mission. The aim of the Mission was to spread its wings far and wide to reach as many people possible around India and the world and "spread the love" without any discrimination.

Excel in love to the poor
Excel in help to the needy
Excel in teaching to the ignorant
Excel in opportunity to all
Excel about all in reaching the lost for christ.

Message from Rev.Thomas Orr

A Mission in the Midst of India's Millions
As one has viewed the nation of India over the years, it has been good to see her development and growth and how she is emerging to take her place amongst the leading countries of the world. But if this is to continue so that other emerging nations will look up to her, certain things are ever needed as with any other nation.

I speak of the children and their need of education, I speak of the workless and the fitting of them to take an active role in the life of the nation, I speak of the infirm and the need of an ever healthier and better standard of life. I speak also of the deep spiritual need that is in the soul of every man.

It is to this end "Mission of Mercy" under its director Dr Prabhu Challagali sees its own particular Mission. The Thomas Orr School of Education is reaching out to the poorest children, under able and qualified teachers, seeking to prepare them for adult life. The Mary Orr Technical Training Institute is reaching out to unemployed and unskilled people, to train and make them supportive of themselves and their families. A team of doctors under the leadership of Dr Prabhu Challagali is reaching out to the most isolated tribal areas, teaching the basics of health and providing free medicine. The ultimate end is to have full medical care for these people in the nature of a hospital. But mankind's need is essentially spiritual and to this end a building has been erected at the Mission's centre where prayer sessions are continually held and God's holy word is ever read and taught. Likewise with the field camps in the most remote places -spiritually as well as physically the people are being cared for. This is the role of "Mission of Mercy" – to seek to fulfill and be blessed of God.
